The year 2006 is a very special year for Downlands
MSC College, for not only is the school celebrating its 75th year
but it also marks the 20th year of its widely praised fine art exhibition.
The exhibition will present works by artists who have previously
exhibited and also introduce the styles and concepts of many new
contributors. It is the constant inclusion of new talent which has
helped the success of the Downlands College Art Exhibition move
from strength to strength over the years. It is now well regarded
as the annual event in Toowoomba for the widest spectrum of inclusion
and the highest quality display of contemporary and classical fine
art.
The eclectic nature of the exhibition reflects Downlands’
successful visual arts education program which was the basis for
initiating the exhibition in 1986. Each year many students (sometimes
thousands) from around the region visit the school to view the artworks
under supervision. This year will be rich with 2D and 3D works,
including tapestry and sculpture, which will highlight the craftsmanship
and the depth of artistic expression available to those connoisseurs
in Toowoomba with an eye for visual investment.
